A Gap in the Market

GAP is arguably one of the biggest names in the buildings plastics market and has a long history in selling door panels. For over 15 years GAP had been manufacturing door panels to the very best of their expertise, yet was searching for a product that could address the problems associated with failing door panels. They were the first to embrace our CoolSkin technology, back in 2006…

With exclusivity for 12 months, GAP branded the products from 3D Laminates as Heat Shield and the product was extremely well received by their customers and call backs, remedials and re-makes became a thing of the past, almost overnight. Charles Greensmith, joint managing director of GAP commented: “Put simply, this is the biggest single improvement to take place in the door panel industry for over 20 years. At last we can provide a product which will enable our customers to go out and proactively sell woodgrain doors that match window profiles, without worrying about the product’s performance.”

With Heat Shield, GAP now has a woodgrain foil specifically formulated to help solve the problems of cracking, warping and bubbling. This technology has been designed for door panels and prevents the heat being absorbed into the substrate, therefore acting as a white door would do. The company was the first to use this advanced technology in the UK and Heat Shield was the first door product with it, thanks to the development by 3D Laminates.

Despite many promises from many manufacturers over the years, no-one at that time had presented a solution that could actively prevent the heat from the sun being absorbed into the panel itself. Polycarbonate sheets were once hailed as the saviour of woodgrain panels, whilst many other companies have fallen by the wayside due to them not being able to live up to their promises.

Whilst the overriding benefit of Heat Shield (with CoolSkin technology) is its protection from the sun, it also provides many more unique benefits as detailed throughout the website.
